Leader Dogs for the Blind welcomes new President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Grabowski. We are pleased to have Grabowski at the helm of Leader Dogs. He is an experienced, talented leader with a true passion for his work and the vision it takes to make improvements and move forward.

Grabowski, a graduate of Oakland University, comes to Leader Dogs with a wealth of experience in management of “non-profit” organizations. Most recently, he was Vice president of Development for the National Hospice Foundation. He has also served Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Community Relations Officer for Hospice of Michigan. In 2005, Crain’s Detroit recognized Grabowski in its annual “40 under 40” feature which identifies men and women who achieve solid business success before the age of 40.

Quoting Grabowski; “I am honored to have been selected to lead such an extraordinary  organization which is clearly backed by strong staff and hundreds of extremely dedicated volunteers and donors”. Grabowski lives in Rochester Hills with his wife and three sons.

And now, for the convention.
The first item for Saturday morning will be an open discussion of amendments that may be presented at the business meeting. This will be followed by two forums running at the same time. At the noon luncheon, the mayor of Sault Ste. Marie will give a welcome address followed by awards and the Lions of Michigan Service Foundation drawing.

After lunch there are two programs for those not attending the business meeting – “Traveling with an International Director” and “Native American Art.

Voting will take place immediately after the business session. Al delegates must be registered and certified in order to vote. Registration will close at 1:30PM and anyone in line before 1:30PM will be registered.

The cocktail hour will start at 6:00PM with a cash bar provided. The Saturday Evening Banquet will be served at 7:00PM.

The new filing requirements from LCI  for MMRs were published in our February newsletter. and were also sent to all Lions Clubs. Let’s hope that we have responsible and responsive recording secretaries that will meet these new time lines. It only takes about 5 minutes to fill out the form on line or prepare the hard copy for mailing to LCI and the District Governor. All it takes is a phone call to your governor if you need more MMRs. The new schedule is effective in April, 2008. As your District Governor I am not looking for another list from LCI to check for timely or late MMR filers. Your cooperation will go a long way to avoiding any more LCI lists.

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Past District Governor Jim C. Perry who was called to heaven on Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Lion Perry was district governor in 1978 0- 79. He was a Life Member of the Imlay City Lions. Our sympathy goes out to the Perry family.

      Vice District Governor’s Comments

Our District Convention is only a month away and I sure hope that everyone has sent in their reservations. I just know that this is going to be a GREAT convention. I know that we have 3 hospitality rooms for Sat. night and that Gov. Les will be having a great party on Fri. night. Please let’s try to have EVERY Club represented at the convention this year.

We are in need of a Region Chair. There are 16 Clubs in Region 1 and every one of the 16 Clubs has qualified members that could step forward to serve the district in filling these 3 positions.

We are in need of a Region Chairperson and both Zone Chairpersons for Region 1. There are 16 Clubs in Region 1 and every one of the 16 Clubs has qualified members that could step forward to serve the district in filling these 3 positions. In Region 3 we are in need of a Zone Chairperson for Zone 1. There are 7 Clubs in this Zone and they ALL have qualified members that could fill this position. Please, if you would like to serve in one of these positions, OR if you know of someone in your Club or in a neighboring Club that would like to fill one of these positions just let me know. I need to get these positions filled as soon as possible.

The other position that needs to be filled, and it is an elected position, is for the LIONS OF MICHIGAN SERVICE FOUNDATION. I would like to see one of our Past Governors step up to the plate and apply for this position

Please let me know of your upcoming events, as I would like to attend as many of them as I can.

Yours in Lionism

Vice District Gov. CHB

Chuck Belesky
