Greetings Lions, Lioness, and Leos: It
is hard
to
believe, that 6 months have come and gone since the convention in
Chicago. It
has been a very busy time for myself and the First Lady. As you read
this
newsletter, I hope that each and every one had a very merry Christmas
and is
looking forward to a prosperous New Year. We have so much to accomplish
in the
remaining 6 months. But with the help of each club doing their share,
we will
reach our goals. This time of the year, while visiting family, friends
and
neighbors affords us an excellent opportunity to ask some one to join
our Lions
clubs. New members are new ideas and new thoughts. Candidates needed: Vice District Governor Chuck is starting to form his cabinet for his term as governor in 2008 – 2009. Formal nomination letters have to be received sixty (60) days prior to the start of our convention in April. That deadline is February 3, 2008. This filing will be for the Lions year that began on July 1,2007 and ends on June 30, 2008. The Lions Pride magazine will be featuring articles by state treasurer Paul Hemerych, CPA. The first article appeared in the December issue titled” The tax man cometh”. Subsequent articles will be in future issues. In accordance with LCI regulations, Lioness and Leo Clubs are considered projects of their sponsoring Lions Clubs. Their receipts and expenses are to be included in the totals reported on form 990 by the Lions Club. Lion Paul Hemerych, CPA will present a session on the new requirements at the Michigan Forum in Lansing on March 1, 2008. Melvin Jones Fellowships are awarded each year at the district governor’s Appreciation Dinner. Each club can nominate a candidate for a Melvin Jones Fellowship. These nominations must be forwarded to the District Governor by January 31, 2008. Based on the amount of funds in the district LCIF account, the voting cabinet will award fellowships. Nominees may be Lions, Community Leaders or Progressive Melvin Jones Fellows. Governor's January Travels:
