Governor's February 2008 Newsletter!

      Greetings Lions, Lioness, and Leos:

I would like to take this opportunity to set everyone’s mind at ease regarding the District Convention. No, we did not change the date of the convention. It is still scheduled for April 4-6, 2008 at the Okemos Convention Center at 2187 University Park Dr. Okemos MI 48864. The information in the January issue of Lions Pride Magazine referring to our convention was an error introduced by the editor of the magazine.

There will be a Mini-Cabinet meeting (casual attire) at the district convention in Okemos on Friday, April 4th, 2008 from 5:00PM to 6:00PM. Look for signs directing you to the conference room

I congratulate the recording secretaries and treasurers of our district who are doing a super job completing the monthly membership and activities reports. Congratulations also go out to the treasurers who are paying their International and District dues on time. “On time means within thirty (30) days after receiving the invoice.” To the four or five clubs who feel they do not have to follow this practice, I would urge the club presidents to take immediate action to get in compliance. Remember, both International and the District bill twice annually. I can only advise you that changes along with penalties at the district level are being discussed at the cabinet.

All Secretaries:
If you missed the e-mail notice from International and were unable to get to the indicated link, please note that the reporting dates for MMRs has been changed. Both the hardcopy and electronic filing schedule is shown below:

      Vice District Governor’s Comments

Our District Convention is FAST approaching and once again this year we are asking each club to please donate one or two prizes that can be used for door prizes OR a large item that could be used for the LIVE Auction. Your participation and the money that is raised from this raffle is what help keep the cost of attending the convention lower for you. Please consider purchasing your door prize items from Leader Dog, Welcome Home, Bear Lake, or Michigan Eye Bank as this also helps them. Please let me know what your club will be bringing as a gift so I can make a list.

I am working on the Organization Roster Book for 2008-2009. If you are interested in serving on any of the committees please let me know. Attached is a list of the District Committees. Please fill one out and return it to me as soon as possible. If you are now serving on a committee, and would like to continue on that committee, please let me know that also.

February is filling up fast. I will be at Berville on Feb. 5th; Yale on Feb. 6th; Region 2 meeting at Bear Lake on Feb. 11th; “Rat” Dinner on Feb. 12th at Harsens Island; on Feb. 14th I will be at the Metamora Lions. On Feb. 16th I will be at Bear Lake for the ice fishing tournament. Our next District Convention Meeting is Monday Feb. 18th in Emmett.

Please let me know of your upcoming events, as I would like to attend as many of them as I can.

Yours in Lionism

Vice District Gov. CHB

Chuck Belesky

Shortly I will be mailing the 2nd half dues assessment invoices. Please instruct your treasurer promptly to remit these dues since no board meeting or action is required to authorize this payment. I still have not received the first half dues from on of our clubs.
